2008 2007 brought us a number of "broken Pyrs" that we were able to "reassemble" and keep them on the path to new and loving homes and so far 2008 is following in those footsteps. Great Pyrenees who have ended up in the shelters either as owner surrenders or as strays, needing more than the usual medical attention we are accustomed to such as updates and/or initial shots, worming meds, spay or neuter surgery. Without SPIN these dogs would surely have been lost - SPIN welcomes all Pyrs with wide open arms regardless of age, physical condition or medical needs. Victims of Auto vs Dog Qunicy - amputation of rear leg. Jack Sparrow - removal of right eye. Robo Junior - silly pup who bit into a car tire and wound up with a broken jaw. Kristina - surgery for a broken femur. And then we have the assorted ailments ~ Conan - surgery for a hygroma (cyst-like fluid filled area) of his elbow Big Daddy and Hillary - surgery for an ear hematoma Thor - dental work and tooth removal JB - surgery for an ear mass removal (thankfully benign) Rommel - our wonderful "old man" - cyst removal and dental work and tooth removal. Sally - surgery for a dislocated shoulder. Gunther - treated for the (totally preventable by seeing that the dog receives his puppy shots) parvovirus. Erika - a battery of testing for diabetes and thyroid. Nicole - torn ACL repaired And then we come to the saddest ones - those we lost despite our efforts. Odo - another resident "old man" - dental work and removal of a mass that sadly proved to be malignant. Odo remained in the loving care of his foster home until he left this life and is once again young and pain-free and waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. Rosey Dawn - who came to SPIN suffering from some what appeared to be neurological disorder. SPIN saw her to the vet and to a neurology specialist and when it was sadly determined that her quality of life would not be what this sweet lady deserved she was escorted lovingly to the Rainbow Bridge where she waits - hale and hearty once more. And then we come to those who were successfully treated for the dreaded Heartworms. Another preventable condition with just the diligent administering of a monthy preventative tablet. These wonderful (and lucky) dogs could have been spared this difficult and painful treatment. Benson ~ Kris ~ Nick ~ Thor ~ Aden ~ Darla ~ Sally Without a doubt every SPINner has reveled in our success stories, giving these wonderful Gentle Giants a chance at a wonderful new life in loving and caring homes. And also without doubt every SPINner has shed tears and endured the sadness that comes with those lost and will have a small break in their hearts for each dear soul that dwelled there for much too short a time. SPIN is an all volunteer army of caring, dedicated, giving individuals who devote themselves, their time and their resources to the care and bettermentment of the lives of these wonderful "Big White Dogs" that come to be under the SPIN umbrella. A great deal of our efforts on behalf of the dogs are made possible by the generous donations we have received throughout the year. These donations contribute much to the "miracles" you have read about above. Even the valiant efforts made to help those who were eventually called home to live with the angels were made possible to a great extent by these benefactors. To all of those who have so graciously and generously aided us by their donations we send not only our heartfelt gratitude and thanks but DROOLY, SLOOPY, WONDERFUL BIG WHITE DOG KISSES and PYR PAW HUGS.
